EMCA4RJ Monthly meeting Reflecting on our organisation

November 3, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am MST

We have decided to use the upcoming several monthly meetings to reflect on our aims, our organization, and our practices (within and outside of EMCA4RJ).

Given that our next meeting will be more of a workshop style, we have some assigned readings
  1. Read Ray (2019) – theory of racialized organizations (attached)
  2. Read “Everything Worthwhile is Done with Other People” (Mariame Kaba interviewed by Eve Ewing)
  3. Read these proposed changes for our group. Then fill out this google form about the proposal. We will use asynchronous feedback + what we discuss in meeting when deciding on changes for EMCA4RJ.
During our meeting, we will discuss the following questions. Most likely we will get through the first 3 and move on to the next ones in the next meeting:
    • What are ways that EMCA4RJ is a racialized organization?
    • What are ways we can alter EMCA4RJ to meet racial justice aims?
    • How might the changes voiced in our proposal help meet these aims?
    • What are concrete practices we, as individuals, can do to advance racial justice/equity in this group?
    • What are concrete practices we can do to advance racial justice/equity broadly in academia or through our different communities
