Data Details

Description: This is a video recorded interaction between two sisters, both university students attending the same school in the eastern United States.
Length (hh:mm:ss): 01:02:57
Data type: Uncut field data
Setting type: Naturalistic
Languages: English
Number of participants: 2
Notes: Jaime (seated on the left) is an 18 year-old black woman who uses she/her pronouns. Kayla (seated on the right) is a 20 year-old black woman who uses she/her pronouns. The recording occurs in Kayla’s dorm room as the two speakers are seated on the bed and watching the television show Grey’s Anatomy. There is a two-camera setup, and footage from Camera 1 has been provided (footage from Camera 2 is available upon request). The prompt for this recording was to “hang out and chat” as they normally would with each other, with no specific prompt for what they should talk about or what the analysts would be looking at outside of how they “use language in everyday conversations”. The names Jaime and Kayle are pseudonyms provided by the researcher who recorded this data, Joshua Raclaw. The recording occurred in 2018.
